Wisconsin Department of Justice

DOJ Clinical Skills Lab/Refresher day AND Trial Prep Workshops!

Good Afternoon,

At the request of SANEs around the state, the Wisconsin DOJ is pleased to open the Lab portion of the SANE A course to all previously trained SANE A nurses who desire to refresh their knowledge and have an opportunity to practice adult female forensic examinations.  The Lab will continue to be a mandatory day of learning in the SANE A course.

Beginning in March 2019, the DOJ will be holding the mandatory lab/refresher day in LaCrosse at the Gunderson Health System Integrated Center for Education, also known as the ICE House.  The Lab has been slightly re-designed and will last about an hour longer (8:00-3:30).  CEU’s will be awarded upon completion of the day.  Also, at the request of many program coordinators, this day of learning has been moved to a weekday, Thursday.  While the mandatory lab day is included with the course cost, there will be a fee for those attending the day as a refresher experience.  The 2019 dates for the Lab/Refresher day are: March 28, June 6 and November 21.

In addition to the lab/refresher day, the DOJ has created a Trial Prep Workshop.  This workshop is open to any SANE trained/certified nurse who wishes to have courtroom exposure, polish up their CV and practice answering questions on the stand.  The day will consist of tips for CV development, a presentation on being prepped as a witness and actual courtroom testimony.  You will need to submit your current CV one week prior to the workshop.  There is a lot of prep done by the DA to prepare the direct exam of you from info on your CV, therefore if your CV is NOT submitted by the deadline, you will not be able to participate in the courtroom experience.  These workshops have been scheduled back to back with the lab/refresher day, so nurses may choose to attend one or both days.  The dates for the workshops are March 29, June 7 (cancelled) and November 22 (cancelled), 0800-400.  While the plan is to award CEU’s for this experience, we have not gotten confirmation on that just yet.  There will be a fee for this day as well.

The fees are $55.00 for each day, or $80 for both days.  You may attend one or both days.

Both days will be held in LaCrosse, with the workshop held in the courthouse in LaCrosse.  Lunch both days will be on your own and there will be a block of hotel rooms reserved for the training.
